Pensioner 'too fit to qualify for blue disabled parking badge' even though he has NO feet Tom Hannah, 73, from Rosyth, Fife, had the lower part of both legs removed Retiree's provisional badge was revoked because he can 'walk 20 yards' Describes how he has been 'through hell' to walk and can't reach his car A Fife Council spokesman said 'common sense' would suggest he is eligible
A Scots pensioner who has had both feet amputated has been refused a blue disabled parking badge – because he is able to walk 'more than 20 yards'.
Tom Hannah, 73, had the lower part of both legs removed in operations last year after doctors discovered that his irregular heartbeat was causing circulation problems in his legs.
He was granted a provisional blue badge to let him park in disabled spaces but when he tried recently to renew it, he was told that because he could walk 20 yards he was not eligible.
so its 20 yards its a joke go to the beach at Weston super mare see the blue badge holders get out of there cars and walk miles go in to any town see them get out of there cars and going shopping 20 yards max. 99% of the blue badge can walk miles

The thing is, the Councils who issue these badges don't make the decisions they only go on what your doctor says. If you get the full mobility allowance then you are more likely to get a blue badge automatically.
Most of the drivers you see that seem to be able to walk for miles have probably been issued a blue badge on the say so of a friendly doctor, because you don't have to be registered as disabled to get one. You can apply directly to your local Council and if your family doctor backs you up by saying you have difficulty in walking and you cannot walk the prescribed distance unaided you will get the badge.
