Families struggling to make ends meet after four years of savage Tory cuts will bear the brunt of George Osborne’s fresh assault on the poor. The depressingly familiar sight of the Chancellor giving a speech outlining his plans to plunder from millions of ordinary people while pledging to protect his small band of wealthy chums was again on show at the party conference. Millionaire wallpaper heir Mr Osborne pledged to freeze child benefit, tax credits, housing benefit, income support, job seekers’ allowance and other working age welfare payments for two years if the Tories win the next election. With the rise in living costs it means 10 million households will be an average of £480 worse off over two years – as the Chancellor rakes in £4.8billion. Half of the victims live in homes where someone goes to work. Those with children will be hardest hit. A family with one earner on £25,000 and two children will be £495 a year worse off while a couple earning £13,000 each with one child will lose almost £355 a year - hitting five million households. www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/ge ... z3EmS2wErI Follow us: @dailymirror on Twitter | DailyMirror on Facebook
