It seems that all the pubs that I have used in my lifetime as a regular are closed, the remaining one closed this year. As for the oldest pub in Brum today there is some dispute. As the old Crown in Digbeth has not always been a pub. The Lad in the Lane (Old Green Man) is trying to claim that honour.
The Green man has been a pub since 1400 but the Crown Claims it opened in 1368

I think there is a dispute between The Old Crown in Digbeth and The Lad in the Lane (the Old Green Man) Erdington to which is the oldest. The Old Crown claims to date from 1368 and it's certainly true that parts of the building were constructed around that time, but the main body of the building was reconstructed between1450 & 1500.
The Old Green man is said to date from 1400 and therefore is considered by some to be the oldest pub in Birmingham. Both building have had a varied life and both started out as private houses. The Lad in the Lane became a pub in 1780 but The Old Crown was first recorded as an Inn in 1626. So the Lad might in fact might have some claim as the oldest house, but the Crown has to be the oldest pub in Birmingham.
