Private prosecutions are becoming increasingly attractive to members of the public concerned that the prosecution service may not have the funds to pursue a case, experts said.
Major companies are also pursuing cases themselves after Virgin Media’s prosecution in 2011 of fraudsters who had flooded the market with set-top boxes that allowed people unlawful, free access to its channels.
