I like a good curry, but as the wife doesn't I don't get much chance of getting one when we eat out. On the rare occasion that I do then I order Chicken Dhansak which is hot and sweet and made with lentils and pineapple. I'm not a rice person so I will either have it on it's own with naan bread or chapattis or occasionally with a few chips.
Though having been shown how to prepare and make a good authentic curry by an Indian friend I often make my own, though I have to put most of it in containers and put them in the freezer as I always make too much to eat in a couple of sittings. So if I didn't freeze it then it would be wasted.

ladypool road was one of the best places to get a good curry but a lot of them seem to have gone The thing is in the 60's & 70's if you wanted to eat out at night except for the posh restaurants and the odd Wimpy Bar there wasn't much choice but there were loads of curry houses. They even did English meals for the less adventurous though you often had to take your own drink as they weren't licensed then. well not many of them.
Now it seems that every pub is geared up for providing meals and every street in the town centre has half a dozen eateries. The Balti Triangle did good business for a while but people are beginning to move on to other types of cuisine now although there will always be a market for a good curry though the day of the darkened room and flock wallpaper are gone forever and the local curry houses are moving upmarket.

The other thing about curry houses in Birmingham was that in the mid 70's the Balti Triangle started to appear in the Sparkbrook area of Birmingham taking in Ladypool Rd and Stoney Lane and the area became very popular in the 80's & 90's. The Balti curry is said to have been invented in Birmingham and in fact the first Balti curry is said to have been served in the Balti Triangle in 1977.
It seems that now the taste for Balti has spread world wide and it is sold in pretty much every curry house that the Balti Triangle is no longer required and the last time I was down that was quite a lot of the original restaurants had either closed down or changed to serving other types of food,
