I have used both the Triangle cinema on the corner of Gooch Street and Conybere Street and also the Luxor on Balsall Heath Rd. They were not my regular cinemas as they were the Imperial and Alhambra both on Moseley Rd. Never had anything to do with Hope Street school though, I don't think I ever knew anybody who attended it even.

Dennis road school did that come under Balsall Heath or Sparkhill When I was at Dennis Rd school 1958-1962 it was Balsall Heath then what it is now I'm not sure, but being next to Balsall Heath park as it is I can't see it being anything else, even if they have changed the name to Anderton Park School and the postcode for that road is a B13 one for Moseley, the school still has a B12 postcode. This is a photo I took in 2008.

The school had a funny set up, one part of the school was mixed junior and infants school that was completely separate from the boys secondary modern. The across Dennis Rd next to the TA barracks was an annex that had two classrooms, the science lab, the metalwork shop, the art class.
The woodwork was at Clifton Rd junior school and there was also a couple more annex's one was the old St Pauls School on Ladypool Rd and the other had stopped being used by the time I started at the school had stopped being used and that was at the top of Runcorn Rd which must have been connected to the Conregational church on Moseley Rd that burnt down.

An old post I know but I knew a George Danks who lived in Redditch he was a bricklayer. This would have been in the 70's I think he lived in Winyates Green as he was about 10 years older than me, if he is still around he would be in his eighties now.

A nice photo from the early 1900's looking down Balsall Heath Road from the end of Wenman Street on the right is the long time gone Sherborne Lodge Hotel, which would be roughly where the entrance to Mount Pleasant School would be later which itself has now gone. Please as with all the posted images click it for enlargement.

Another great image of Balsall Heath Road and although technically it's not Balsall Heath as Edgbaston as good as disowned this end of the road, at least it was always called Balsall Heath whenever there was a bad report about it in the local or national newspapers. This photo was taken from the Alexandra - St Lukes Road junction.
