Still on Balsall Heath Road but a little later in time, these two photos are from the 1960's and show the Co-o group of shops that ran down from Upper Cox Street down toward the black patch that was used for a cycle speedway after the building were bombed out during the war, but by the 60's had fell into disuse.

And still on Balsall Heath Road with a couple of images taken on the aforementioned black patch cycle speedway that was set out on the site of a bombed area just after the second world war.

We move now to another part of Balsall Heath that was disowned by Edgbaston when not wishing to connected to the goings on in Varna Road. The area was even demolished in the early 70's to disperse the unwanted population the Victorian houses being replaced by the little boxes that pass for housing today. These houses that were far superior to other houses in the district that thousand of pounds were spent renovating were a waste of time because all the demolition did was move the problem to the other side of Calthorpe Park where Cheddar Road became the new red light area only much worse than Varna Road ever was. A couple of images of Varna Road, a sort of before and after.

Brighton Road, Balsall Heath before and after the widening of the bridge. I think it pretty obvious that this road was never intended to be a bus route, at least not for double deckers.
