A man undergoing a minor operation was given a vasectomy by mistake.
Doctors have tried to reverse the blunder, but the victim faces an anxious wait to see if he will be able to have children.
The man had gone in to surgery for a minor urological procedure, but doctors carried out an operation on the “wrong site”. They could now face a six figure compensation claim.
The Royal Liverpool Hospital has "apologised unreservedly" to the patient and said the surgeon has been suspended from carrying out operations during an internal investigation.
The man has not been identified and the NHS trust has refused to disclose his age because of patient confidentiality.

A five-year-old boy has been banned from an after-school club - because he keeps turning up in princess dresses and high heels. Romeo Clarke has a collection of 100 dresses and eight pairs of children’s high heels which he likes to wear every day after school. But the youngster, who has three older sisters, was accused by organisers of the church-run club of “confusing” the other children by his choice of clothes. His shocked mum Georgina, 36, has lodged a complaint with the playgroup, claiming it is discriminating against her son. The full-time mum fumed: “I was so cross when I was told he couldn’t wear dresses that I was speechless. All I could ask was 'why?'. “Wearing the dress is his choice and if wearing it makes him happy it’s fine with me. “This is not a case of my son being trapped in a girl’s body - he’s a normal tom-boy who, because he has three big sisters, likes wearing dresses. I think this young lads mother is quite enlightened, clothes shouldn't be gender defining. Though I wouldn't choose to do the same for my own children, but if he feels comfortable and it is truly what the young lad wants, then why not. I have no doubt that he will grow out of it as he gets older. Unless the school club has a dress code, then they should mind their own business as their actions are probably damaging the child mentally.

hi Adam what would happen to the lad when he gets to about ten and decides hes going to school like that kids can be cruel and heartless and I could see other kids giving him a hard time at school

But he won't will he, as most schools have a dress code. As does his school at the moment, it's only an after school club that he attends that don't like him dressing that way. He obviously wears a school uniform to school.

Police have released a recording of a woman who dialled 999 to request help in a row over the number of sprinkles on an ice cream.
The caller, who was not named by West Midlands Police, contacted emergency operators on Monday while arguing with the owner of an ice cream van.
During the minute-long call, the woman told the operator: "It doesn't seem like much of an emergency but it is a little bit."
Police said 999 should not be misused.
In the recording, the woman can be heard complaining about the ice cream she has been given.

"I've ordered an ice cream and he's put bits on one side and none of the other," she said.
"He's refusing to give me my money back and saying I've got to take it like that."

"I cannot stress enough that the 999 number is for emergencies only."
