Voters are set to go to the polls in a parliamentary by-election in the Nottinghamshire market town of Newark.
The Conservatives are defending a 16,000 majority in a contest triggered by the resignation of MP Patrick Mercer.
Polling stations are open between 0700 BST and 2200 BST.
Warm, sunny weather is forecast across the East Midlands on Thursday, which could boost turnout in the closely watched contest.

It looks like the Tory's lost some 9000 of their majority and everybody else except the Greens lost votes as well. How can all the newspapers claim a victory for the Tory's when they just managed to hold on to their safe seat?
If we had a fair and unbiased press & television in this country they would be heralding a great success by UKIP.
